LPO Tuesday Talk: When, in the Course of Human Events…

Dear Friend of Liberty,

This week we celebrate the 234th birthday of our great nation. 234 years ago, a group of Patriots gathered in the sweltering heat of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to declare that “All men are created equal” and endowed with the rights of “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”  Furthermore, they stated that governments are formed solely to protect these rights of man, and “whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the people to alter or abolish it.”

Every year, our government becomes more destructive of our rights, and every year, we have the opportunity to alter our government.  Our elections process allows us to change our Local, State, and Federal Government each and every time we vote. Yet, most people only vote in Presidential election years, and the result is NO CHANGE.  In order to truly alter our government, we must take action every year, and change the government from the bottom up, at the local level.

One of the brave Patriots that gathered 234 years ago, Patrick Henry, said “it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and, having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation? For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst, and to provide for it.”

We must not sit idly by and watch the illusions of “Hope and Change” take place before our eyes.  We must have open eyes to see the dangers in front of  us, and open ears to hear the words of those who would guide us through those dangers. We must stand up and be counted; we must make the truth heard.  Every year, we must ensure that the message of the Founding Fathers is heard through our candidates, our members, and our party: “All men are created equal, and endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, and among those is Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

Just as they did 234 years ago, let us continue to do each and every day.  We must gather against the forces of tyranny, and declare ourselves free and independent citizens who embrace the rights given to us by our creator.  We must use the resources at our disposal to ensure that like minded, liberty loving individuals are running our government at all levels.  The above speech by Patrick Henry ended with one of the most well known liberty quotes of all time, “I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”  The Founding Fathers were willing to die for our their liberty, what are you willing to do for yours?

Until next time,
